I don't remember if I used the vinstall or installed from
ports originally. I don't think it matters. I think the
vinstall uses default directories, just like the ports. I
think the only difference with a vinstall is that it sets up
the appropriate lines in the procmailrc file & crontab for
you, rather than you having to set it up again yourself.
But those don't change with the upgrade. Since I did the
ports install earlier, I have come back to check my log
files & everything is running o.k.
If you want, you can wait and ask Scott to be
sure, or you can look at the vinstall script, which is here:
/usr/local/install/clamav.install
At least on my system, the new clamav isn't catching any
virus that it wasn't catching a few days ago - I'm getting
hit with a lot of "SomeFool.Y" - but those have been coming
in (and being stopped) since last Tuesday - so I think you
are probably fine for a few days with the existing virus
signature set.
Once you get the hang of using ports, by the way, it is
easier than a vinstall. You can always undo the ports
install with the deinstall command, if you run into any
problems.
