[vps-mail] more VPS2 Newbie questions

Sorry, I didn't see this in the archives;

0.5) I got my majordomo working - I must have typo'ed somewhere cause when i went from scratch and nuked all my existing lists and did the test list it works fine. so I feel able to move on ...

1)I found out from support that Mailman doesn't operate under suexec in a sub-hosted mode - i..e in order to provide mailman for a client I have to let them operate all their CGI scripts and PHP scripts as root, just like on a VPS1. Seems kinda silly to push it on the support pages in this case.

[Note to ViaVerio - update your docs to this effect, including the fact that Mailman is not available as a vinstall on VPS2, unlike what your support pages say]

I wonder, has anyone figured out a work-around, like providing a sub-domain (lists.domain.com) that users use just for mailman? Or is everyone using DadaMail or majordomo, which as Abigail says, is old and obsolete?

2)Had some initial Confusion on SpamAssassin, since I couldn't find the procmailrc file that told SA to run. Turns out there's a /etc/ and /etc/mail/ and /usr/local/etc/ directory, and they all house different things. Ok, I can RTFM on that one, but just a tip for other newbies - the one you want is in /usr/local/etc/procmailrc

However, I was copying my procmail files from my VPS1 account and noticed that they referenced SA with the command:

:0fw
|/usr/local/bin/spamc -U /var/run/spamd.sock

whereas the VPS2 install from imanager2 uses:

:0fw
|/usr/local/bin/spamassassin

I'm confused - I thought that running SA thru spamd was much more efficient than running it thru the spamassassin program defaults? the 2nd line is what imanager 2.11 installs on my VPS2, and you gotta trust Rus, right?

'night,

thanx,
Matt
