When I worked with UW-IMAP a few years ago on a different platform I
noticed that it reads the full message into memory as it expunges and
modifies the mail file. We ran into a similar problem with very large mails
and the process would run out of memory. Which level of VPS are you using?
Is it possible that your process size is not big enough? The solution we
ended up using was configuring the mail system to not accept mail that was
bigger than what the imap(and pop) server would handle.
Personally I don't think that email is the proper protocol to use to
transfer large files, but I am continually bombarded with users who think
differently... :(
Harrison.
