Re: [vps-mail] bouncebacks going to postmaster instead of sender

I have a vps2 account that bouncebacks seem to be always be going back to postmaster, instead of the sender. Is this a config setting in sendmail?

Mark, afaik if the 'From ' (not 'From:') or 'Return-Path:' headers are
set correctly, the bounce will go to the original sender. Double-
bounces will go to the address specified in sendmail's config file
'DoubleBounceAddress' (default = postmaster), which is usually correct
for a double-bounce message.

Well, that is what I thought too. That is why it is confusing to me why it would be working differently on this server. However, I just examined a header of one of the bouncebacks and I think I have figured out the problem. This particular company uses iManager for most emails. Evidently, iManager assigns the "From " line to be userid@localhost (which then gets expanded to userid@hostname), as opposed to whatever the 'From:' address is set to. So, I think this problem is unique to iManager.

I'll ask Rus if it is an issue that can be resolved in a future revision of iManager.

Thanks.

Mark
