[vps-mail] Spamassassin with Mailman on VPS1

I am running mailing lists on a VPS1 server using Mailman. I have
started to receive a lot of spam directed to some of the mailing lists
- as these come from non members, they are not forwarded to the list,
but held for review - and it is getting to be inconvenient to have a
queue full of spam every day.

I have Spamassassin running on the server, running via spamd -- but it
doesn't scan the mail destined for the mailing ist, as that is aliased
rather than assigned to user pop account. I tried to install a patch
for Mailman to enable Spamassassin -- but it doesn't work. :(

So my question -- has anyone been successful in using Spamassassin
with Mailman on a VPS1? If so, how do you set it up?
