I'm not sure about this, but I wonder if you have an error of some kind in
a line that reads:

| /usr/sbin/sendmail

(That is a vertical bar, followed by /usr/sbin/sendmail ...)

Do you have any lines like that in your rc file? If so, what does the
whole recipe--that ends in "| /usr/sbin/sendmail" --look like?

I think that error message generally occurs when a recipe delivers to a
program, and the program appends its output to a file ... and procmail
tries to formulate a lockfile name from the name of the file that the
output is appended to.

(If you don't have a line--probably the last line of a recipe--that begins
with a | and contains the string "/usr/sbin/sendmail", then I probably
don't know the answer to your question ...)
