It's a good weapon for your arsenal if you need it,

It seems to me good for security - otherwise couldn't
someone simply email several very large files to the
root user and essentially bring down the server by
filling up all the disk space? (Server would still
work, but all other email would be blocked and data
could be lost if there is not space to write new
files).

Yes, in fact, that is why I started this thread. A friend of mine who is not a comupter geek like myself, tried to send me a 200mb file and it brought the server to its' knees. Disk quota spiked and exceeded in no time. This was due to multiple things including the procmail process hanging itself and taking up all the memory and then all the swap space, the clamav log file was massive, and the sendmail process died altogether. Took me an hour to figure out what was going on and by that time I had support on the line helping me out.

My personal theory about e-mail is that it was created to send test messages, not files. FTP was created to send files and HTTP was created to display web pages. I know I will never be able to stop a worldwide trend of html e-mail messages and pdf attachments, but in my own little world I will do what I can to get my users to realize that you just cannot effectively right-click on your hard drive and select "E-mail to...". Bad user, bad!

Too bad we they do not require an Internet license for getting on-line.

Oh, and thank you for all the comments.
