Godwin, I don't know what you are doing, but I have my
servers configured to ONLY allow SMTP AUTH; I've got a
dynamic PPPoE connection with a changing IP, and my ISP's
numbers are frequently listed in list.dsbl.org - I find out
when I boot up my computer first thing in the morning and
try to send an email & get a block message. (As I noted
before, all I have to do is whitelist it in access to fix
it).

Also, if I add a specific domain name to the access block
list, then I can't send mail to it via the VPS any more. So
for example, let's say I add spammer.net to the blocklist,
and then decide to also send spammer.net an email to tell
them to leave me alone. I can't do it via the VPS. (I have
to remind myself to send the email first, and then add the
blacklist entry -- I wouldn't waste my time emailing major
spammers, but occasionally I'm getting spam-type email from
a clueless real person who thinks that's the way to sell his
services, so I sometimes do notify them when I am
blocklisting).

I have a VPS2. These are the lines of the mc file re SMTP
authorization - is there a mistake in the configuration?

dnl SMTP AUTH configuration for relaying through server
define(`confAUTH_MECHANISMS',`PLAIN LOGIN')
TRUST_AUTH_MECH(`PLAIN LOGIN')
