I had a similar problem with Clamav - what caused it was an
email loop. An email with a large attachment was being
forwarded off server and then bounced back, then
reforwarded, etc. Clamav was repeatedly rescanning the same
large email - & it ate up all the processes.

So here is what you do.

Kill clamav

Check your sendmail queue by running

% mailq

Look for a big email. If you find it,

% cd /var/spool/mqueue

Then delete the files associated with the problem email.

Then restart clamav
