Hello Scott,
I added clamav-s.securesites.net however get a failure, connection with
clamav-s.securesites.net (ip: ???) failed.

I am still experiencing the same error as earlier if I have
database.clamav.net in there, where it gives up trying to connect, in cron
have tried both clamav and root as users.

It appears that freshclam for 0.70 doesn't read the mirrors.txt file any
longer, rather it gets it from /usr/local/etc/freshclam.conf, which,
unfortunately, only allows for one entry.

So, here are your options:

- put in clamav-du.securesites.net (or clamav-sj, if you're in the San
  Jose, Ca. datacenter)
- leave the default: database.clamav.net

Here are the pros and cons of each:

Using *.securesites.net:
- pro: very fast updates, one of the most reliable mirrors (this is
  hosted on a VPS v2). Reduces overall Internet traffic.
- con: _if_ this goes down, you won't get updates at all

Using database.clamav.net:
- pro: reliable, will almost never fail
- con: may be slow, may be fast; guaranteed to be slower than the
  mirror in the datacenter (though sometimes you will get the mirror
  in the datacenter). Will consume considerable b/w (though you don't
  pay for it directly).

Things to consider: speed and bandwidth aren't really important, reliability
is most important.

I'm going to still use the *.securesites.net mirrors for my own accounts
(I'm the mirror maintainer, so I'm going to eat my own dog food here), but I
think I'll probably recommend most folks just use the default
database.clamav.net for now until I can get this sorted out with the clamav
folks.

Summary: after upgrading to 0.70, the mirrors.txt file is no longer used by
freshclam. The new configuration file is /usr/local/etc/freshclam.conf.
There are also some new configuration options for clamd (if you're running
clamd). I can't recommend clamd yet, though I've heard it is much more
stable in this release.
