It would be interesting to see if the old version would have caught
that same set of viruses.

I can't either. The VirusEvent is probably what's being
triggered. Maybe your non-vinstalled version uses a different
configuration file where VirusEvent is enabled by default. Try doing
"pkg_info -L clamav-0.xx_y" (where xx and y are the version and
package revision numbers; you can get those from "pkg_info | grep
clamav"), which will tell you the files installed when you did your
pkg_add or 'make install' (from ports).
