That is correct. Here's the approach I take:
# perl -MCPAN -e shell
(if you've never run CPAN before, you'll be prompted with some
simple questions, accept the defaults execept for choosing a mirror:
choose one of the viaverio mirrors in your datacenter, you'll thank
me later for how blindingly fast your CPAN installs go)
cpan> force install Mail::SpamAssassin
(time passes, compiles fine, tests mostly ok except for spamc/spamd tests, installs ok).
cpan> quit
You are now upgraded.
