RE: [vps-mail] SpamAssassin Install - Newbie

I can confirm these worked on 2 VPS2's for me today.

Thanks for the links, Michael!

It sounds like you may be in the same boat that I was before finding my
solution this morning. I will paste my earlier email in the hope that it
helps you with your situation (I, too, run a VPSv2 and using the makefile
commands as found on the url below worked to force the install and
successfully update me from the Verio provided 2.43 version to 2.61):

I finally had success after using the "Alternative" install option found on
http://www.spamassassin.org/full/2.6x/dist/INSTALL and logging back in as
root, unzipped the 2.61 file, and used the makefile commands as indicated. I
also used Michael Moncur's config tool at
http://www.yrex.com/spam/spamconfig.php which seems to have done a great and
simple job for configuring the local.cf file with the preferences I wanted.

Good luck.

Hello,

Do you have a way to install onto a VPS2?

I have tried:

Cpan -f Mail::Spamassassin and came up with errors

Then I tried from cpan prompt:

Force install Mail::Spamassassin and it came up again with errors, stating
to try: i /Mail::Spamassin

And again came up with errors

John

It isn't always a clean install, and it might not work for first-time
installers. It also doesn't have the vinstall niceties that allow for system
and user configuration. If you're comfortable with spamassassin already and
don't use the vinstall user setups, you're a good candidate for
"do-it-yourself" (but then again, you've probably already done-it-yourself
and wouldn't be asking questions!).
