Speaking of SMTP AUTH: Your Eudora problems might be solved if you can get
Eudora to authenticate (with a valid VPS user name and password) to sendmail.
(I don't use Eudora; maybe someone with more experience knows configuration
details ...)
Hi Folks,
I'm in a hurry this morning, so in brief, Eudora sucks as an email
client. I have about 5 different IMAP capable clients and Eudora is the
only one I had to pay money for. It's also the biggest pain to set up
and get working with alternate ports etc. I no longer use it. Somehow I
don't miss the flame detector ;)
OTH, going to the eudora.windows usenet group always turns up
enthustiastic users (and maybe some of the team) that can help solve the
problem. AUTH issues abound in that group and it sounds like that's what
she's having.
Marjolein, POP before SMTP is a way to let roaming users (anyone with a
non-fixed ip) send mail. According to sendmail folks, it should never be
used and is a horrible kludge (but then ummm sendmail... nevermind!)
What it does is build a list of valid ips that it will allow to relay.
It is much "cleaner" to use AUTH and require users to enter their
usernames and passwords before allowing them to relay.
