Friends,
Our mutual friend, Art Zemon, sent the following question to me:
Indeed, ClamAV is doing it's thing. It nicely dumps stuff into
$HOME/quarantine but does not modify .mailboxlist. You might want
to add something to the vinstall "docs" about it.
The .mailboxlist file Art is talking about is what IMAP clients use
to tell which files should be used as mailboxes. By adding
'quarantine' to the .mailboxlist file, users will be able to check
their mail and see a new 'quarantine' file full of worms/email
viruses.
My question to this list is, How do you want this implemented?
1) have the vinstall automatically create/modify .mailboxlist and add
'quarantine'
2) mention the file in the vinstall but do nothing automatically
(Art's recommendation)
3) leave things the way they are
4) some other suggestion...
By automatically adding 'quarantine' to .mailboxlist, my fear would
be that when a user opens their IMAP client, this new 'quarantine'
mailbox appears and they may say "Hey, what's this? Wow, look at all
these emails I've missed!" and then proceeds to infect his/her
computer with all current worms. What are your thots?
