Sorry, Wilson, but spammers are smart. Why else are they such a problem to 
very smart folks like us?

Ugly Joe frontline jerks may be at the shallow end of the gene pool, but 
the folks behind them - the ones who make more money than we ever will - 
are not stupid.

The logical solution is to have no catchall and so random address attacks 
will fail by getting refused. But remember that bouncing a spam can get you 
blacklisted by SpamCop (see earlier discussion on this). To protect 
ourselves, we have to either:-
1. accept and trash the undeliverable mail - so spammers are encouraged by 
vastly increasing their apparent delivery rate, or
2. accept and manually transfer the stuff to SpamCop (who ask us not to 
autodivert everything suspect), which also increases the apparent delivery 
rate while burning up yet more bandwidth, processing power and time (like now).

BTW : One of my clients auto-diverted to SpamCop a spam received via her 
own contact form. So she reported herself as spamming! Not once, but twice! 
THAT issue is still ongoing, wasting yet more time. Sometimes, I despair. 
And I wonder which side has the smartest troops?

I do agree spammers don't care. There are many types of social criminal 
which should attract the death penalty - virus-writers, spammers, 
politicians, tax-collectors...
