on VPS v1 you will have to modify the sendmail config by "vinstall sendmail" and then follow the instructions. You will have to change the timer setting in the ".mc" file and then reconstruct the ".cf" while you are at  it you should think about going to smtp-auth instead of popb4smtp that is the default on vps v1 for smtp security.

 allways keep a copy of the original sendmail.cf in case something go awry so you can revert to original options :)
