[vps-mail] SA 3.02 - restarting spamd to read local.cf whitelists?

I've done the Spamassassin vinstall on a VPS2 and got version 3.02 
(over top of 2.6.x).  I realized it didn't have my whitelist lists 
from my older VPS1 servers, so I added them to 
/usr/local/etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf but they don't seem to take 
effect.

How can I re-start spamd to make these be read?
