Doesn't freetype2 (used by GD) use it?
The problem only shows when using 8-bit characters, so not everyone is going
to see it right off the bat. We are since most of our websites are primarily
in languages other than English.

Actually I need to build from source and do a forced DOWNgrade since the
newest version, 2.6.16 which is currently installed, breaks things.
