look at the StreamMaxLength feature for clamav.conf, you could also
try shunting it early in procmail:
## don't scan message bodies larger than 10 megs
:0
* B > 10000000
{ DONTSCAN=1 }
:0
* ! $ $DONTSCAN
CLAMAV=|/usr/local/bin/clamscan ...
(this is untested). These changes will unfortunately have to go in the
"changes here will be lost" section of your procmailrc file, so when
you upgrade, be sure to check them again.
