I blocked the ip address from accessing the server, the httpd.conf file is
not blocking ssh, it just blocks the ip address from being able to do
anything other than attempting to break in, and then the ip address is
denied.

Erm; John, you blocked ssh attempts in httpd.conf? Nah!
