Hello friends,
I don't want to discourage posting to this list; rather I want to make
sure that anyone who has a question feels comfortable posting to
it. We cover a lot of technical stuff, but don't be shy to post the
simple stuff too. We can do that, too ;o)
One thing I would like to ask is that when anyone wants to start a new
discussion topic (i.e., a new subject, etc.) that you refrain from
'replying' to an existing message to do it.
When you reply to an existing message, it creates an 'In-Reply-To'
header that joins the two topics together (even though they have
different subjects), making a mess of the archives. (In layman's
terms, when you 'reply' to a message rather than create a new one,
your new message is flagged as a reply to the unrelated message and
the two are linked in the archives). Browse the archives in the
'Thread Index' if you want to see what I mean.
So, here are the rules I would have you follow:
1) if you don't know what I'm talking about, ignore it and no one will
get angry at you. Post your question first--it's more important
that you post your question than the tidiness of the archive (I can
clean them up later anyway).
2) if you have a new question for the list, send a NEW email (i.e.,
don't REPLY to an existing message) to 'vps-mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx'.
Thanks!
Scott
