I think what Bill's trying to say is that there is a large group of end
users who have their e-mail password "remembered" and have no idea what it
is 3 days after they typed it in. If CPX put a "click me to reset your
password" link in the user's mailbox they could at least retrieve that.
Actually, I wasn't talking about email password (unless you are talking
about the web mail email password).
I'm talking about any time you go to
http://www.mydomain.com/ControlPanel
and forget your password to log in.
You mentioned that CPX didn't track email addresses for users... I'd like
to suggest it does. In my personal records of the people who have domains
on my server, I have name, email, telephone and other stuff..
I think it would be quite reasonable to perhaps even require a DA or end
user to supply an email contact address... If I want to send email to the
DA for hisdomain.com I don't have to go digging through my records, and
second, if the DA forgets his password, there is an email address on record
with CPX that information to retrieve, reset, send a temporary password or
whatever CPX decided to manage that, can be sent to...
Of course, end users would have a contact email address too. Obviously
something that any user could view and update in his profile...
Seems like storing information like this in his profile would be a pretty
straight forward extension... and perhaps while I'm suggesting email,
perhaps consider Full name, telephone, address...
Why Full name? For example, I host some non-profit domains for various
organizations. The Webmaster at any given time changes. I have a generic
login usernname like "telephone" to manager telephonecollectors.org but if
the full name reflected the name of the "real person" behind the scenes, it
would be nice.
I'm not suggested a full featured address book ;-) but if you obviously
have a profile record, and adding some more useful fields can't be too hard
;-) You output them on one page, and allow them to be updated on another
page... SMOP, right?
Bill
